The concept of a "throw up" or "roll up" competition, where members come along and meet on the putting green at a given time and throw the balls up or put them in a hat, to select their partners, has long been a tradition at Helsby. To then play a round in a relatively informal manner but nevertheless with a competitive edge, has always been very popular. Most importantly, it offers new members the chance to meet, get to know and play with well established members, and in so doing come to feel much more part of the Helsby scene.

Each "throw up" involves an individual competition and a pairs format with the usual prize pay out on the day. However, to maintain an ongoing interest, some of the entry money will be carried forward to go towards prizes for the best performers on a league basis through the season. The individual Stableford scores from each competition throughout the summer will be recorded and the player with the highest aggregate of the best 10 scores at the end will be declared the "Throw up" League winner.

There will be no limit to how many events anyone plays on but obviously the more they do, the better the chances of improving their top 10 scores. It is hoped that there will have been enough interest (and hence funds) to mark the end of season by holding some sort of "bash" after the last event on the calendar!

The dates are as follows:-

June 6th, 13th, 18th, 20th & 28th
July 2nd, 4th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 23rd, 25th & 30th
