The Winter League entry sheets are now available in the Pro Shop. The cost is £7 a pair, payable to the Pro at the time names are registered. Entry lists will close in the middle of September and the leagues will be published soon after.

The Winter League is a pairs' matchplay competition played on alternate Sundays throughout the winter months.

Depending on the entry level, pairs are placed in up to four leagues who play in the morning and a further four who compete in the afternoon. Each league contains up to ten pairs who play each other on a scheduled basis (i.e. 9 games). Two points are awarded for a win and one for a half, with the winners of each league playing off in a three round knockout stage during March next year. The leagues are arranged such that two of the morning league and two of the afternoon leagues start their programme of matches on Sunday 12 October and the other four leagues start the following Sunday. Players who enter may choose whether they wish to play in the morning or afternoon.

Pairs are placed in leagues where the combined value of their two handicaps is similar to those of the other pairs in the league. Many pairs are long standing partnerships while other members may change partners from year to year.
New members are encouraged to enter this enjoyable and keenly fought competition, which some say is the hardest of all to win because it goes on from October to March. Playing in the Winter League offers an ideal way to meet other members of the club as it gives the opportunity play against nine other pairs during the course of the winter.

It is, of course, recognised that new members may not have partners, but they should not be deterred from entering as the Pro, in conjunction with Match & Handicap, will wherever possible find them a partner.
